What's in my school bag?

Hello lovelies!

So before I get into my 'what's in my school bag', I just wanted to say something quickly. So on last Saturday I finally uploaded the first post in my 'Let's talk about...' series. I was talking about the judgements and misconceptions of wearing makeup in the modern world. As you can probably tell if you've read it, it's a post that I've been working hard on to perfect for ages and I was quite nervous about posting it. But I'd just like to say thank you! The response I got was amazing and even though it's my newest post, it's got double the views of my previous most viewed blog post! Wow! I'm quite a small blogger so to have 500 views in less than a day on one post was just overwhelming. If you haven't read it yet, check it out here!

Okay so onto today's post, 'what's in my school bag? For some reason, I love reading/watching these so I thought I'd have a go now that I'm using my school bag daily. You can see my bag in the picture above, it's a large black shoulder bag from TK Maxx. Some of this stuff is a bit weird but it's just what I took into school before writing this post...

*I'm sorry about the photographs, the lighting was awful on this particular day and I am not an expert quite yet, my apologies!*

I'm not sure how much I need to explain the items in the post... It's pretty self explanatory? I love the Taylor Swift perfume (despite being against buying celebrities products ugh.)

My little Ted Baker purse in hot pink is great to walk up to the shops with. I know it's quite bright pink but most of my stuff is black so it makes it easy to find! Actually I've been wondering this for a while, how many of you go out of school to get lunch and who sticks with the (sorry, language) shitty canteen dinners?

Okay, okay, I'm a girl. So no matter what you say, I will always argue that bringing a little bag full of girly things is essential. Possibly the only thing that is essential in my little bag is the tampon. (Middle right if you can't spot it... It's like a where's wally of beauty products!)

Some weirder things I bring include: a tooth brush and paste in case I decide to have curry, my Clarrins hand cream and a compact deodorant. Just in case, you know? The pretty blue pouch, if you were wondering, is full of hair bands and bobby pins for the regular hair emergencies I experience.

Nail clippers!! For those of us with long nails (which I love, no matter who thinks they're "too long"), nail clippers are essential. You don't know when one of those pesky nails could break and you don't want a scruffy nail that catches everything, do you!

If I could take one thing to school, it wouldn't be my books or pens, it would be gum or my headphones. They're  essentials to get you through any day (especially when you make the stupid decision to eat a tuna sandwich!)

Yup, you could guess these were next. I walk to and from school so if my friend isn't walking, headphones are lifesavers. I also like listening to music as I walk round school if I'm on my own because it makes me feel a lil badass. I normally listen to rap but then can hardly control myself when I actually know the rap... it's a real struggle.

Carrying my laptop to and from school is annoying but essential. I don't take my laptop everyday, just when I know I've got a free so can get on with some work. Also, there's a weird grown up feeling I get when I whip my laptop out and start working, it's almost like being at uni ay.

My school stuff! Oh my. I have actually already done a school supplies haul that has all my school stuff, including folders, diaries and stationary. But here's quick overview for the lazier readers:

- Clear pencil case: pens, highlighters, pencils... (pretty basic stuff.)
-  Flashcards and post it notes
- Folders, folders and more folders!!
- A forest full of paper that seems to collect at the bottom of my bag despite my best organisational efforts.

I hope you enjoyed that everyone, I know it doesn't seem quite as meaningful as my last post but anyway. Also, hope you didn't mind, I was in a bit of a chatty mood writing this so excuse the occasional rambles.

Thanks for reading and I'll see you next time!

Surviving Sixth Form Tips

September eh? Didn't see that one coming did we. For most of us, that means starting/continuing with GCSE's/ A Levels or a university degree. Now I cannot talk about starting a university degree as I am not quite there yet. However I can easily share my top tips for starting or continuing your GCSE's or A Levels so that's what I thought I'd do today! My organisational tips are applicable to everyone but I thought I'd also do some sixth form specific tips as its such a different experience to the rest of school! Enjoy...

Organisation

  • OMG. Folders will probably be your best friends for the next 2 years so buy good ones that you like. Forget stupid patterns that you will regret by next year, buy plain folders in bold colours. If you're doing GCSE's; not all subjects require folders but for some (e.g. history, DT and music), folders are essential.
  • I'd recommend lever arch folders for organising your papers at home (e.g. different topics) but using an A4 Ring Binder to carry the useful papers into school everyday. Mostly because Ring Binders are more spacious but might weigh you down.
  • It's really useful to buy plastic wallets to go into your folders before school even starts. I know from experience that trying to organise months worth of loose paper is a lot more trouble than taking the time to put your paper into a plastic wallet at the end of each lesson. This will also help you later when it comes to revising as your paper will be neat, easy to read and pre-organised chronologically.

  •  Pre-order any books you will be reading before you need them. Before you start shouting that this post is way too late, you will only be studying one book at a time and probably not all at the start so there's no need to panic if you haven't got them yet. But once you have ordered them it's useful because when the time comes you will have it to hand and won't miss out on the first lesson of notes. But make sure you check with your teacher which copy you'll be using; it's so useful to have the same one as your page numbers will correspond everyone else's.
  •   Buy a clear pencil case. This is a simple one. You're gonna need a pencil case for your mock/real exams, you might as well get it now whilst the school supplies are everywhere.

  •  If your school doesn't provide you with a planner, I'd definitely recommend getting your own. Personally, my school supplies a weekly planner and I don't know what I'd do without it. You'll need somewhere to write down your homework, course work deadlines and extra curricular stuff e.g job shifts.
  • For the next 1/2 years, you're going to be learning topics that should show up in your final exams (unless it's Edexcel physics ey!) If you're anything like the rest of us, you'll leave your revision till the 2 months before your exams. However that doesn't mean you can't help yourself out a bit. Try buying a pack of flash cards and every now and again in lessons, make one on the subject you're covering at the time. By the time revision starts, you will already have a pack of flash cards pre made.

Sixth Form

Can you guess what subject I was doing some 'further reading' on??

  • Make the most of your time- especially free periods. Study, do group projects, research universities or do some further reading. I know chatting is very tempting (and don't just sit in silence) but make sure you get on with something even while your sat with your friends.
  • Talking about reading, do it! If you're looking to go to a top university, you will have had to of read around the subject you want to do and be able to talk about what you've read.. Look online and in the library
  • Talk to your teachers/ tutors. We all pay loads of money for extra tutoring but normally if you ask a teacher (and they have time), they're more than happy to help you outside of lessons if you're struggling. Take advantage of the fact you've got a near expert that will answer any questions you've got to the best of their ability. Also talk to your tutors loads when it comes to universities. If you're aiming for a top (or any university), they will be happy to help and support you with the process. It's great to get them involved as well they will be happy to write you a glowing review.
  • Get a part time job. You will probably need a bit more cash for clothes, travel and books so it's a good idea to get yourself a part time job. (I'll be writing a blog post on first jobs soon!) They also look great on your personal statement as it shows you're taking responsibility.
  • Get as much information about the future as you can. Whether it's an apprenticeships, full time work or university, there's so many ways to get information on our futures, we're almost spoiled for choice. So make the most of it! Your main resource is probably the wide world web as you can find out about almost anything. Apprenticeships opportunities, university degrees and open days, work experience...
  • Set a goal. If you have a goal that you're driven towards, it will be a lot easier to stay focus and motivated on your work. This is important as the work will be so much harder, having a goal kind of reminds you why you're still going.
They're all my tips for now, I hope some of those help if you're starting or continuing through GCSE's / A levels. I'm probably going to be doing a bigger post of tips for sixth form tips but hopefully they're alright to get you into the swing of things!

Good luck with whatever you're working on everyone! Remember work hard but have fun!

See you next time,

Back to School: Shoes and Bags

With the return of September, comes the return of school for most of us. No matter how infuriating it may feel to wear a uniform, please spare a thought for us that now have to buy enough decent clothes to last us at least till the end of September. And we all know it doesn't stop at clothes... with bags, shoes and accessories, this is a stressful time for us all. In today's post I am going to be talking about bags and shoes for back to school. But come back soon as I'm also writing a post on clothes for non uniform students.

BAGS

I know for those of us that don't have uniform, clothes is by far the most consuming thought at the moment. So why start with bags? Well basically... we all need a bag.

Getting a school bag has always been one of the most stressful shopping trips of  my teen years. (Second only to school shoe shopping.) So how do I do it?

First you have to decide what style you want as that will determine which shops will suit you best. Please chose something suitable but any bags like satchels, rucks sacks or over the shoulder bags work fine. And don't judge by the name. A satchel could either be a vintage brown bag you find in a charity shop or a super dry brightly coloured satchel... the options are endless.

Also, think about your budget. I'm going to be writing with this post of a budget from about £10-£50 as that is the average amount we all have to spend on school bags. But if by some miracle, you have £100+ to spend on a school bag, your options are endless so just have fun!

Over the shoulder/ fashion bag
£34 at Topshop

As much as I hate to admit it, I have bought Topshop bags for the past 2 years for school and they're pretty damn good. I particularly like their black bags that come with long straps (to go over the shoulder) that normally come out around this time. They are normally £30 ish pounds and last all year. If you're looking for a fashionable but suitable bag that will just about last a year, Topshop is a pretty good bet.

£35 at TK Maxx

This is where I bought my newest school bag (expect a what's in my school bag soon!) and I was pleasantly surprised. Obviously the brands they hold are nice quality but they also carry a large range of bags in most colours. From black handbags to grey over-the-shoulder bags to brown satchels. If you're looking for a hand bag type school bag, you will probably find it here. When I first started looking I was a bit put off by the £60 price tags, even for the excellent brands. But if you've ever shopped in TK Maxx, you will know that there is a massive mix of £60 bags, £200 bags and £20 bags. Mine was £25 and you can't tell the difference... honestly! No but seriously, I really recommend having a look! I'll get back to you this time next year to let you know how it survives.

£15 from H&M
If you're on a bit more of a budget, check out H&M. They've got a considerable range of good size bags (big enough to hold your books), most of them black or brown. They range from about £10-30 but if you look in a big store you will normally find a really decent bag on the lower end of the price range. I'm not sure about the quality but just check it out in person if you're unsure.

Avoid
I don't like to be too negative but as well as recommending brands, there are some shops I haven't been impressed by (bags wise.)

New look: For a school bag, New Look isn't a great choice. Their bags are generally too small and hand bag like, no way substantial enough to hold books. Furthermore, the quality is poor so they break a lot sooner! Sorry
River Island: I had a River Island school bag 3 years ago, I loved it. But it broke half way through the year, not just the strap but the zip and the lining. Not great quality. Also, I find River Island bags way too expensive for what they are...

If you like bags like these, try shops like Super Dry, Animal, Weird Fish or Cath Kitson. They are normally brightly coloured and very durable. Perhaps a little more expensive but definitely more long lasting. A lot of these places do similar bags but in ruck sac form if that's something you would like.

If you're reading this near Monday 24th August, and you like these bags, check Super Dry here as their bags are on offer and more affordable.

If you want a bag like these, I would avoid cheap high street knockoffs that you can find from places like New Look or Primark. I don't want to sound harsh but you can always tell they're knock offs and you can normally get them quite affordable when they're in the sale.

£34 from Topshop

If you are looking for a fashionable or sporty ruck sac, you have a few options. Personally I love my plain black ruck sac I bought from sports direct. It was cheap and cheerful and does the job. If you are looking for something a bit 'cooler', try Top shop or ASOS for ruck sacs. The little black leather ones are particularly cute.

SHOES

As I mentioned earlier, school shoe shopping is famous in my family for being one of the most stressful days of the year. But not this year!

If you are looking for plain black shoes that are suitable with a school uniform, I think brogues are the way to go. They are pretty & fashionable but also sturdy and don't violate the uniform code. If you have a good look around, most places are selling Brogues for this exact reason. I highly recommend getting your school shoes from Clarkes or John Lewis though. If you are wearing the same pair of shoes everyday, even expensive Topshop shoes will start to show signs of weakness. Most shoes will. Buying a pair from Clarks or John Lewis will mean they last a little longer, even if it's not the whole year.

If you are in the even more stressful situation of non uniform, you know the struggle of multiple pairs of shoes. It is no longer acceptable to wear the same pair of black shoes every day *screams inside*

Here are the basic shoes you might be needing:

Black shoes/pumps- check places like New Look or Next for these. They're basics and you shouldn't be wearing them every day so you don't need the absolute best quality. Nevertheless, they will go with absolutely anything so can save you on days when nothing seems to match.

Comfortable plimsolls- Okay sounds weird but I mean shoes like Converses or Vans. I'd definitely recommend getting the branded ones but if you're looking for a cheaper alternative, there are loads of knock offs in high street shops.

Chelsea boats (brown or black?)- Mmm... I love Chelsea boots but really I guess any kind of boots will do. John Lewis (own brand as well as carried brands) do some really nice boots which you should definitely check out. Black or brown boots are great for the winter, they look cute with jeans but are still comfortable. I wear mine 24/7 in the autumn/winter.

Trainers- (Nike) I don't like to talk about trends but wearing trainers as a casual shoe is a major trend this year. I love my black Nike trainers and it's starting to become acceptable to wear them with jeans and everything! This is fantastic because they're so so comfy (plus you can wear them if you're going on an after school jog.)

Dr Martens boots- Or any kind of substantial boots really. They're sturdy so will be your best friend throughout the winter months.

It's quite hard to give links and shops for each one but these are just the different styles of shoes I would recommend to get through sixth form. Always look around for cheaper alternatives, but sometimes (like Converses for example), it's better to just splash out on the originals as they are better quality and tend to look better.

Avoid
  • I would totally avoid high heels when at sixth form. Even if you can walk amazingly in them, it looks a bit too formal and dressed up for school. I mean you do you, wear them if you want but definitely don't feel pressured to.
  • Don't avoid white shoes altogether. I've got white Converses and I love them, they look great with jeans. But before buying loads of white shoes, bare in mind that in the winter the ground will start to get muddy and gross. In turn, your perfectly white shoes will get muddy and gross.
  • Same with suede shoes. They look awesome and are great for certain occasions. But as a material, suede gets ruined in the rain so shoes with suede on are probably not the best idea for back to school.

I hope this helped for those of you dreading going back to school. If you're gonna go back, you might as well go back in style! Anyway, good luck and thanks for reading. Let me know in the comments how you're feeling about going back to school and keep a look out for my post on back to school clothing.

Thanks and see you next time,

So you're off to uni (top tips)

As September gets closer and closer, the prospect of actually leaving for Uni is becoming a reality for a lot of people. I was not going to do this post as I'm still in sixth form so cannot give my 'top tips' for uni quite yet. However it's such an important topic for a student blog, I thought I had to include it. But instead of just using tips from online, I talked to people I know that are either at uni, going this year or have finished uni, to put together a post with all their best tips for those of you starting university this Septemmber. Without futher ado, here are top tips for freshers starting university...

-Sort out your finances before you go. Make sure you know your weekly/monthly allowance and have a plan to start making an income. Whether that's a job or a summer internship.

-Try checking your university on social media sites before you leave. Sometimes they have groups set up specifically for freshers so you can start meeting new people before you even get there. At the very least, join the groups so people have an idea of who you are if they happen to see you.

-As well as making sure you have all the right gadgets, it is a good idea to insure the expensive ones (phones, laptops, tablets) against theft particularly or damage.

-You do not need to go out and buy all the books on your reading list as soon as you get in. Have a look around because you'll normally be able to borrow them or buy them for cheap from another student or third party website.

-If you're looking for a job in your university city, go on a day out about 3 weeks before university starts. Hand out your CV to shops and cafe's in the city. If you wait to do this in September, it's a mad rush as all students are trying to get jobs so they all go very quickly.

-Budgeting is hard as a student so you have to learn to save on the little things. Buy your own beers rather than going out, make your own coffee each morning rather than spending £3 each day on a Starbucks... In the long term, this will add up so you'll be more likely to be able to splurge on the bigger stuff.

-If you're not a big TV watcher, rather than spending loads on modern cable, try just buying Netflix for £10 per month and use catch up online to watch newer shows.

-Throughout freshers week, infact throughout your whole first year, try to go out and get involved as much as possible. It will help you make friends and build a strong social life. Also, you will have less time to go out in later years due to work overload so make the most of it now.

-During freshers week, make sure you take the time to get to know your room mates and neighbours. A great tip is to leave your rooms door open whilst you're in so people can come in and chat. (But be sure to close your door when you're out and sleeping of course!)

-Take plenty of alcohol for freshers week, even if you go out a lot, it can always be stored for when you're running low on money.

-If you are not a massive drinker/partier, do not be worried or nervous. Just go out with people you meet and get along with, have fun and go with it. You probably won't be best friends with these people forever so just have a good time.

-Bringing a laptop to uni is a real advantage. It means you can take notes during class and write your work up anywhere rather than relying on computers in the library.

-Take outs are great but make sure you're not being done over by the price. For example, getting take out curry when it's on offer is good for your budget but don't buy the expensive small portions of rice. Instead, buy a supermarket own brand rice (bread, pasta ect...) which you can keep to use throughout the week/month.

-Clothes wise, do not stress about your wardrobe too much. Just wear clothes that are comfortable, look decent and kind of reflect who you are. For example, if you are sporty, there's nothing wrong with wearing sports type clothes around campus (to an extent.)

-Take full advantage of student discounts and charity shops because you won't be able to afford full priced high street clothes for very long!

-At most universities, a humble bike will be your best friend throughout the 3/4 years you are there. Cars are expensive and bad for the environment (plus there's almost no where to park) so are often discouraged by universities. However, don't buy a £1 000 bike, a normal priced bike (even second hand) will do the job. Make sure to invest in some lights as it's a legal requirement to have both front and back lights in the dark; safety wise you might also want to look for a helmet and some kind of fluorescent material that can be attached to either you or the bike. It may not look cool but could save you from some pretty nasty accidents.

I hope some of these tips helped, I'm sorry they're such a random bunch of tips, I just wrote what I was told ;) Anyway, for those of you starting university in September, good luck! I'm sure it will be amazing. Just remember that you're paying a lot to be there so make the most of it as much as possible.

Thanks for reading and see you next time

Results day (A levels)

Hello everyone, hope you're all having a good day.

Pretty big day eh?

I really wanted to do a post on getting through A level results day but I've been swamped recently... Plus I didn't want to advice you guys on a subject that I haven't gone through properly myself. It was my results day today and although I'm not going to tell you guys all about it, I got my grades and am feeling pretty happy!

Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post to say well done to anyone that got their results today. Massive congratulations if you got all your grades, you've done so well! No matter what grades you got, if you worked hard you should be super proud - as my mum would say.

If you didn't get exactly what you hoped for, do not panic. Stay calm whilst working out what you're doing next, whether that's going into clearing or possibly exploring a different career option. I don't like to say it after all that hard work but remember that A levels are just one set of exams and aren't vital to have an awesome life!! I guess what I'm trying to say is keep everything in perspective, think about what's really best for you and how you're going to achieve it. Sorry that sounded so preachy guys, oops.

Have fun and enjoy the rest of your summer no matter what!

I'm definitely going to be doing a post on GCSE results day so keep an eye out for that if you're interested. If not, look out for my future blog posts on a variety of subjects or go to my archive for all blog posts I've ever written.

Well done everyone, it was a tough day... See you next time,
Laura Stone x

Prom: Do's & Dont's

Hello all.

For some of us, prom has been and gone. I can't really describe the experience but it was definitely something.

Anyway, for those of you who have got prom once exams have finished, you might still be organising your many appointments and salon visits ready for the big day. But it's quite hard to decide what to get done and what to just leave to do yourself. So today I'm going to do a quick run down on what to get done professionally and what is a waste of time. Lets get straight into it...

These are the actual Dunne stilettos I got

Heels

Did I wear heels?
Of course gurl, 5 inches and all

Would I get heels next time?
100%! So my feet may of been killing me after a couple of hours but c'mon... shoes are my favourite! I just think that a stunning pair of stilettos can add sophistication and sex appeal to your whole look (as well as giving your behind an instant lift.)

Would I recommend getting heels?

I would say that you need to balance comfort with appearance for prom. If you can't walk in heels then just go with a classy pair of pumps (especially if you're wearing a short prom dress.) Because there's nothing worse than someone who cannot physically move all night because of their shoes. Try getting slightly smaller heels and just practise round the house a month in advance. But at the end of the day, heels are a part of prom and all girls are in the same boat!!

Fake tan

Did I get a fake tan?
Yass. I got my first professional spray tan at my year 11 prom.

Would I get a spray tan if I went to prom again?
Um... probably. It's not vital but I did like how it looked.

Would I recommend it?

There's so many ways you can fake tan before prom and I think across our year, we had them all. Some people started gradually tanning early. Some people did their own with shop bought fake tans. (Check out my blog post on best budget fake tans here.) And some people- including myself- got a professional spray tan.

If you want something more subtle then doing your own is a great way. But be careful because I saw so many girls with patchy uneven tans that they'd done themselves. I really enjoyed getting a professional tan and if you're looking for an even but slightly more obvious tan, that's the way to go. A lot of people noticed and complimented and I loved the way it made my legs look. Overall, getting a fake tan is nice (especially if your dress colour suits more tanned skin), but it's not vital and you can look equally as stunning with your skin au natural.

Fake nails

Did I get fake nails?
I certainly did.

Would I get them again if I went to prom again?
Probably not this time, I am sorry guys.

Would I recommend it?
Ugh, these nails look so stunning but I'm sorry, it is impossible to function with fake nails on. I did them literally 20 minutes before I left so as not to accidently knock one off, but they were still a pain in the ass. I could not type on my phone, take pictures or even eat properly. Half of them came off throughout the evening which was also a bit shitty. I have short nails so I understand if you want to have long nice nails for one night, but I would recommend getting acrylics or just a manicure to make your nails look stunning rather than fake nails.

Fake eyelashes

Did I get fake eyelashes?
No I didn't, but some of my friends did

Would I get them if I went again?
Possibly yes actually, instead of fake nails.

Why?
I feel like fake eyelashes would just add something to your makeup look. Really drawing attention to and opening up your eyes in photos. Some of my friends were saying they were slightly annoying because they were a bit heavy but then at least they didn't come off like my fake nails. I just didn't get them because I felt I'd already spent quite a lot...

My hair doesn't look very good here because the curls haven't become 'loose' yet

Makeup and hair done professionally

Did I get my makeup and hair done professionally?
I did and I LOVED it!!!

Would I do it again?
Yes, I wish I could have it done everyday *cries inside*

Recommendations

I think it really adds to the experience to get your makeup and hair done professionally. I went to Benefit in my local John Lewis who did my makeup for £25. It was so lovely, this lady was so nice and did my makeup amazingly. She did my smoky eye, I was my own "goals" for once. They used their own products so it all stayed looking perfect all night. For once, I had cheekbones because she could actually contour (whereas I just fail when it comes to contouring.)

My best friend and I then went to get my hair done which was equally as fun. It was so sophisticated and there were so many ladies commenting on how stunning I looked (which I'm not going to lie, felt really nice.) As well as it being fun to be pampered and fussed over for once, it also takes the pressure of as you don't have to try and do your own makeup and hair at home.

Okay, the last ones a bit weird but it might be helpful for some of you that are dreading prom...

Get drunk before prom

Did I get drunk before my prom?
Well... Not really. I wasn't drunk but maybe a lil tipsy

Would I do it again?
Probably actually, I'll explain:

There's a temptation to go all and just get completely pissed before prom. Not a good idea. You wanna look decent for photos and you want to actually be able to remember the night. I had some Pimms and (not gonna lie to you), a shot a vodka. I'm not a light weight so that just made me a bit more confident. It's completely up to you and depends on how much you can take but that's just what I did.

Okay that's it for now guys. I hope you enjoyed my quick run down on some do's and dont's for your own prom night. Most importantly, have fun and look fab!

Thanks for reading, feel free to share with anyone else you know that's got prom coming up.

Exam survival: Sitting down to revise

So, you're motivated and ready to revise. But what now? Today I'm going to talk a bit about how to actually sit down to revise. What you need, where to do it and other tips. Hope this helps someone...

My first tip is to potter about for a bit before you start. This sounds weird, but leave about half an hour before your scheduled revision start to just wander around. So you can do everything that would be on your mind while you should be revising. Whether that's texting your friend to say that you might take a while to reply, or tying your hair up because you love to look fabulous.

Personally, I hate to work when my hairs scruffy and my rooms messy because I feel like I haven't properly got into the day. So I leave a bit of time to braid my hair and shove everything into my wardrobe so I can't see it. You might want to reserve some time to do a final twitter timeline scroll with a cake before sitting down. Then you will feel up to date and not always itching to reach for your phone.

That leads us nicely to the Big One: technological distractions. Phones, laptops, tablets. Mixed with twitter, Facebook & tumblr. Together they can take over your life and stop you from getting any work done. It's funny, sometimes I find myself watching videos on how to get straight A's or something, rather than actually working?!

Everyone says just put them on silent and out of reach, but it's more than that! Obviously you should do that... but there are some other things that I do so I don't feel tempted to pick up a device.

Make sure that you finish off any conversations. I can never concentrate if I'm in the middle of a conversation because I always want to check if they've replied and what they've said. So just text close friends that you might be talking to and say that you won't be able to reply as quickly but you'll text them when you can. (During a well deserved break maybe?)
I normally have a quick scroll on twitter before I start so I don't feel left out. (Replace twitter with your social network site of choice.) Sometimes I go as far as turning my notifications off because even that little light popping up can be too tempting!

If you listen to music, try playing it off either an old iPod or Bluetooth speakers so you don't actually have to have your phone/iPod with you.

Finally, get organised! I've touched on this already but I think it's really important. If you just completely clear a table and shove any clutter around you somewhere you can't see, it will help so much. It helps prevent distractions but also helps clear your mind so you can start revising. Get your books all ready (but only for the subjects you're doing) and your pens laid out.

I suggest either sit close to, or prepare food before you start. All this stops you from having to keep getting up and interrupting your focused revision.

I hope some of these tips help you to actually sit down and start revising. Remember: the earlier you start, the less stressful it will be! If you have any different things you do before revision, leave a comment below as I'd love to hear them.
